The IRIS Center has various hardware and software available to students and faculty for their digital projects. IRIS resources must only be used for appropriate, project-related use. This includes online activities. If any equipment or software is damaged or not functioning properly, please notify IRIS staff immediately.
This page lists all paid software available on each computer. It does not include various free software currently installed on some of the computers. Let IRIS staff know if you need particular free software installed for an IRIS project.

Jane, iMac 27″ (mid-2011)
Jane is an iMac used primarily for graphic design and image editing with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. It is also commonly used with the Epson flatbed scanner Gertie for photograph and document digitization.
Gertie, Epson GT-20000
Gertie is a flatbed scanner for digitizing flat documents and photographs. It is connected to Jane and has a maximum scan size of 11.7″ by 17″.

Jane

Sony VAIO L Series All-in-One Touch Screen
Eugene is primarily used for text recognition and editing. This includes converting images of text into an editable format using ABBYY FineReader and organizing and studying that text by encoding it with Oxygen XML Editor.

Oscar
Epson GT-20000
Oscar is a flatbed scanner for digitizing flat documents and photographs. It is connected to Eugene and has a maximum scan size of 11.7″ by 17″.
George
Mac Pro Mid 2012
George is primarily used for audio and video digitization and editing with the adjacent video and audio equipment.
Sony TCWE475 Dual Cassette Player
This tape deck can play cassette tapes by connecting it to speakers or can convert cassette tapes into audio files using George.
ADVC-300 Video Converter and Sony VCR and DVD Player
These two devices can convert DVDs and VHS tapes into digital files with George.
ProDuplicator DVD and CD Duplicator
This equipment can be used to duplicate one DVD or CD onto up to five disks at once.
Norman
iMac 10,1
Norman is used for linguistic analysis with Praat and audio and video transcription with ELAN.
Mobile Scanner
Epson Perfection V600 Scanner and Dell Latitude E5470 Laptop
The mobile scanner is useful for scanning flat objects that cannot be transported to the IRIS Center. Documents and photographs can be scanned on the portable Epson scanner using the Dell laptop. The scanner can also digitize film slides and negatives. It has a maximum scan size of 8.5″ by 11.7″.
Bertha
ATIZ BookDrive Mini Book Scanner
Bertha is used for digitizing books and other documents that cannot be scanned on a traditional flatbed scanner, such as newspapers. It uses two Canon EOS Rebel T6 cameras to photograph each page of the book.
Canon EOS Rebel T6 Cameras
There are two of these cameras, and they are typically used with the book scanner. They can also be used for photography and videography.
Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR Cameras
There are two of these cameras, and they are an older model of the Rebel T6 Cameras for the book scanner. They can also be used for photography and videography.
Dell Latitude 3380 Laptops
There are five of these laptops and can be used for various video and audio editing purposes.
Shure MV51 Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
There are seven of these microphones, which can be used in conjunction with computers and smartphones to record high quality audio.
GoPro HERO5 Cameras
There are two of these GoPros for high quality video recording.
Tripod
This tripod can be used to stabilize photographs and videos.
