Capstone Project

The Literacy Crisis

By: Jerrica Asbeck

This is a series of emails with digital posters, links to Google Forms, resources for finding and buying books, and book recommendations. These emails would be sent out to parents/guardians of students at the high school level.

The first email would simply inform parents/guardians of the problem and offer a solution while encouraging them to keep looking for more emails on how they can help.

The second email would introduce the idea of a parent book club on campus. The final picture is of the linked interest form.

The third email would be to announce the start of the book club. It would once again state the importance of reading at home and introduce the book for that month.

The fourth email introduces a special parent/student book club event. This way students are encouraged to read as well, and parents have extra incentive to participate.

The final email in my sample series is for the end of the school year. While reading in the book club is great, reading for life is the goal. To inspire summer reading, I would send out a reading list of great book recommendations and remind them of places to get books cheap or for free. I’ve included the link attached to the email below as well. https://www.canva.com/design/DAGfGy6pd7s/v7zABI6wUJ85pn0Ral710Q/view?utm_content=DAGfGy6pd7s&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=viewer
