The Crocodile Savior
On September 4, 2006, Steve Irwin (the beloved Crocodile Hunter), was fatally injured by a stingray while filming a documentary at the Great Barrier Reef. After the injury, Irwin was administered CPR while on a boat sailing to the nearest hospital. Once arrived, the hospital staff announced him dead. What you’ll read next is what every little kid wishes had happened.
Once upon a time lived a cheerful, animal loving man named Steve Irwin. Far and wide known as the Crocodile Hunter, everyone adored him for his boundless positive energy and love for the natural world. With his trusty khaki shorts and button down green shirt, Steve was always ready for an adventure!
One bright and sunny morning, Steve woke up with a twinkle in his eye. He was going to film an episode for a show about stingrays! He finished his morning routine, called his crew to finalize the set, and set off for the shimmering Great Barrier Reef that afternoon. As Steve arrived at the reef, he was greeted by a symphony of colors. The water sparkling like a million gems, schools of fish dancing playfully under the waves, and reefs of all different colors shining vibrantly. Crikey Steve thought. Today was going to be a wonderful day full of life. Steve jumped into the water, giggling and smiling like a big kid. He floated around, pointing to all sorts of wonderful sea creatures, telling everyone about each and every single one. Steve emphasized how important it was to keep the ocean clean and safe for these beautiful animals.
Suddenly, a gorgeous stingray comes into frame: its beautiful gray coat and round trapezoidal shape steal the attention of everyone. Steve slowly approaches the majestic creature, verbally examining everything he notices. To Steve, this stingray was a precious member of Earth. It was part of the reef’s ecosystem and Steve considered every step carefully as to not scare the animal. Unfortunately, the stingray, sensing Steve, was spooked and suddenly turned, swimming right past him. It accidentally bumped into Steve! Now off balance, Steve turned quickly, trying to catch his balance. The stingray was scared of this fast movement and flicked its tail, giving Steve a poke straight to the chest. The stingray fled and Steve began swimming back to his boat. While remaining calm and smiling, Steve looked at the camera and assured everyone that things were going to be alright. However, his heavy breathing and flushed face said otherwise.Luckily, his friends on the crew were nearby and quickly helped him back to the shore.
At the hospital, the doctors were cheerful and friendly. Dr. Dolfin, wearing a shiny stethoscope that had fish patterning, assured everyone that Steve was going to be just fine. All he needed was some medicine and some rest. After a few silly jokes and a hearty dose of positivity and rest, Steve felt as good as new. Nature does its own thing, and Steve had zero malice towards the stingray. On the other hand, after finding out about Steve’s incident, the people began to hunt stingrays and cut their tails! Steve believed that people missed the entire point of why he does what he does.
With a newfound spirit, Steve decided to start a project called “Save the Wild!” He wanted to make sure that all animals – big and small, furry or scaly, even fishy – could live happily in their natural habitat. Steve traveled across the globe expressing his feelings about animals and nature. He believed that it’s the cruelty of humans that affects us, not the natural instincts of animals. Meeting other folks who loved animals as much as he did, he was able to recruit more people to the cause. “Save the Wild!” was a major success. Millions of children across the globe joined Steve’s mission as “Earth Heros!” in their own neighborhoods! They planted trees, cleaned up natural parks, and even protected wildlife. Steve became a beloved superhero of the animal kingdom, known for his undying spirit and enthusiasm.
The world thrived under the brought sunshine, animals roamed free, and children laughed. Thanks to the shyness and fear of a stingray and a man with a forgiving and big heart the world became a better place for all our animal friends.
