Homunculus

Overcoming our strongest memories (traumas) makes a change in our own identity. Also, humans are social creatures by nature, and when we interact with each other we are interacting with their identities, that at the same time are their memories and traumas, thus we learn the most by socializing, we can get affected by the traumas of other people. The main character gets a special power after getting a hole in his forehead that allows him to see monsters that are called “Homunculus”. These monsters are from another world that resides in people’s minds. Every person has a different monster, and the aspect of each one is the reflection of a trauma in their lives. The main character of the movie is the only one who can see them, so he decides to help everyone with their homunculus. At the end, the main character starts to get affected and influenced by the traumas of the people that he helped before. The movie shows that traumas are the memories that affected us the most in our lives in a good or a bad way, thus when you overcome these memories your growth process advances. The movie shows that our lives are a process, and this one is affected mainly by our strongest memories that at the end are traumas that we had at some point in our lives; process also involves change, and the overcoming of those traumas make a change in people’s identity and lifestyle. In the movie this is shown when the leader of the yakuza left the mafia because he could overcome his trauma from childhood. His trauma was that he cut his best friend pinkie with a scythe when he was trying to trade the scythe for the toy of his best friend.
