Interest Statement – William Hernandez

I’m really looking forward to the week 6 and week 14 reading involving St. Louis history and COVID-19. I moved to the St. Louis area about a year ago and I’ve had a lot of fun learning more about local history such as the World’s Fair, Forest Park, and Cahokia Mounds. There’s so much history all over the city and I’m always excited to learn more about where I live now.

COVID-19 was a worldwide event and hearing about other people’s perspectives from different regions is always interesting. It affected everyone in unique ways from having to change our work culture, school culture and just everyday life. Some people had doomsday preparations with bunkers, others had financial backup plans to work from home and some were already self-sustainable with homegrown food and filtered water. It’ll be really interesting to explore how our personal culture might’ve been involved in these decisions through this class.

Gideon Okai

Hello my name is Gideon Okai. I am a British Ghanaian. Im majoring in computer science with a minor in music. I play five different musical instruments, but for now my main focus is the piano. I currently live in Chicago, Illinois. So I would say that Im a musically inclined person, I like to produce and make music arrangements for live performances and shows especially for music artists. I also specialize in doing playback engineering and sound engineering. So moral of the story music is something that is a passion/ hobby for me but it’s also a side hustle and a job. Apart from music I like to workout I do my best to stay in shape and be active. I like to play soccer, basketball, and football.

I chose this picture because drums was the first instrument that I started my musical journey with before I started I started playing 4 different other instruments.

My Interest statement

After taking a look at the course syllabus, my main point of interest is to find out in what ways digital tools could make it easier to analyze history, culture, and social issues without losing their meaning. The very themes of data visualization, mapping, and digital storytelling capture my attention as they require both imagination and rationality. I wonder about the different ways that technology can be applied not only for the dissemination of research to more numerous audiences but also for the exploration of who is being represented and who is being muted in digital domains. Ethics and social impact of technology have also become very attractive topics of discussion, especially when it comes to injustice, inequality, and the role of digital media in both the reinforcement and challenge of these problems. I am really looking forward to the day when I will be able to do my academic work on the subject of local history, like that of St. Louis area and the surrounding regions, say, Cahokia, through digital projects. I would like to see my semester’s work involving a mix of technology, ethics, and storytelling while I sharpen my digital skills as a matter of practice for other areas beyond this class.

Ioannis Koupepides

Tsion Woldetsadik

Hi, I’m Tsion Woldetsadik. I’m an Exercise Science student at SIUE, and I’m working toward becoming a pediatric physical therapist. I’m a caring and motivated person, and I enjoy learning, staying active, and helping others.

Trace Trettenero

Hey, my name is Trace Trettenero. I am excited to learn more about the topics in this class!

My digital footprint used to be quite big but has dissolved since. Over multiple platforms (attached below), I have accumulated multiple thousands of followers and have even been featured on large media sharing spaces like “Barstool Sports.”

I think social media is fun, but I also see the importance of having a separation between what people see and my own personal bubble. Here are some public things you can find out about me across social media…

This Spotify playlist I made has an average of 30 monthly listeners. And Is still public.

Here are my other social media platforms I use, some professional (LinkedIN), and some not so much.

Giannis Koupepides

My name is Ioannis Koupepides. I am 20 years old and I am from Cyprus, a small island in the Eastern Mediterranean. I chose to combine academics and soccer by moving to the United States, where I am currently a sophomore pursuing a degree in Exercise Science and competing as a goalkeeper for the SIUE men’s soccer team. Before transferring to SIUE, I studied and played soccer at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas. My main goal in the future is to become a professional soccer player. Still, beyond that, I aspire to help other soccer players find opportunities in the U.S. through scholarships that allow them to combine education and athletics. In the future, I also plan to open my own gym, where I will work as both the CEO and a fitness instructor. Living alone abroad has helped me build strong character, independence, adaptability, and overall maturity, shaping me both as an athlete and as a person.

Tyler Phillips

My name is Tyler Phillips, and I am a Marketing major with a minor in Data Analytics. Some of my hobbies are golfing, duck hunting, creating content on social media, investing, and finding ways to make money.

One of my biggest passions is creating content. From a young age, I have always enjoyed making videos, but over the last few years, I’ve decided to start posting my content to social media. This goes hand in hand with my Marketing major, which is why I decided to major in Marketing.

Here is a picture of my TikTok analytics from the last 60 days. I mostly post videos in the car/truck lifestyle niche/community. If that interests you, you can check it out @therealphillips35 on TikTok and Instagram.

Digital Identity – Kevin Magadan Lab 2

I’m on Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, and Discord as my social media platforms. Usually I’m just a spectator on these platforms. Twitter is exclusively for notices from whoever I follow on there. Other than that I am pretty rotted when it comes to the content I consume on these platforms, and love playing ANY genre of game. Also the picture is of my Teacup Yorkie, Kuma, being his goofy little self.

William Hernandez

I’m active on Facebook, Instagram, and Discord for social media. On Facebook I’m not really speaking to anyone, just have it up to check on family posts every once in a while and using Marketplace to buy/sell stuff. Instagram is just used to watch funny videos and Discord to communicate with school clubs.

I don’t share much or post anything on my social media, really just my profile picture and occasionally a concert or an event on Instagram. I’d be comfortable sharing with the class pretty much what I post online already since I already was under the impression it’s public even if I don’t know who looks through it.

The image I’m using is from my parents’ hometown and where I enjoy spending summers when I get the chance to.

Josh Rivero

Hi, I’m Josh. I’m working on my computer science major and psychology minor. I’m from the area, but lived in Michigan for a while before going back to school. I like drawing, video games, and music. I’ve been around the U.S. for gaming tournaments and concerts. I work at an eSports lounge in Missouri. I love animals and grew up on a farm, but right now I just have my 1 dog, Marnie, with my partner.

For social media, I use some Twitter, Tiktok, Bluesky, and Discord, but I mostly just follow stuff for the games I play or art. I talk to people through Snapchat a decent amount, although most of the actual pictures I send are just of my dog.
