The Story Behind the Lyric

Vincent has some friends who appreciate antique art, and they sometimes will have some conversation about bronze, Song porcelain, and furniture in Ming and Qing density. Through these conversations, he has an idea that using the Chinese art that was handed down to be the title of the song. The kiln porcelain that was once popular in the Song Dynasty was chosen mainly because of its rareness. Because of the war, the glaze formula and the kiln change of the firing process, there are only more than 70 pieces of kiln wares that have been handed down around the world, which is a treasure of the country. However, Vincent later gave up the name of the kiln, because of its characteristics and it is not suitable for the lingering love( Vincent, 2008,113).

Vincent gets inspire from a travel record of the Northern Wei Dynasty, "Luoyang Jialanji", which describes the author Yang Xuan to visit Luoyang City twice, seeing Luoyang's prosperous and splendid fireworks, and returning to Luoyang again. The city Guo collapsed, the palace was overturned, and the temple was gray and stunned. After Fang Wenshan finished reading, he was quite touched. He fancied that he was the protagonist Yang Hyun. He returned to the Northern Wei Dynasty, revisited the old land, and wrote the story with the scene, which was transformed into a word by a picture described in an ancient book. Fade Away describe a sad love story between a general and a woman.

The lyrics with chinoiserie that created by Vincent reflect many linguistic features which Chinese younger generation use them in their conversation. These linguistic features often appear when Chinese young people express their feelings

Metaphor

1. Away from the hustle and bustle, you took refuge in Buddhism, leaving this mundane world.

繁华声 遁入空门 折煞了世人

"Prosperity" refers to the secular voice, suggesting the feelings of men and women. The word You refers to the women. The meaning of this lyric is the secular voice of the world has been spread into the temple, make the women who became a monk feels so sad.

2. The stupa collapsed. Which soul did it shatter?

浮屠塔断了几层断了谁的魂

The stupa refers to the temple, on behalf of the Buddhist studies.  The stupa means Brahma transliteration refers to monks, Buddhists, but it also means "float", "Buddha".The first part of lyrics means even though "I" become a monk, but I still can't forget about you. The scriptures in the Buddhist can't let me have a pure heart.

Phonology

The sky is crying blue, as I wait for you.

天青色等烟雨(yu),而我在等你(ni)。

White moonlight guides our way, fields of morning dew.

月色被打捞起(qi), 晕开了结局(ju)。

Our world is greener on the other side so free.

如传世的青花瓷自顾自美丽。

The time is calling.

你眼带笑意(yi)。

Looking at these five words that I marked with Chinese pronunciation phonetic-- Pinying. You will find they all end with[u],[i] phonetic. Vincent wants to use this kind pronunciation phonetic to form a rhyme in ancient sound that imprisonment. According to the form of mouth and lips, Chinese phonologists divide the vowel into four categories: open call finals, aligning call finals, closing mouth finals, and screaming finals. There are four different levels in each final. [u] is screaming finals and [i] is aligning call finals that's why they can make a rhythm. The characteristic of Vincent poetry is pure text plus rhyme just like a pretty girl without any makeup. Although there is no punctuation, all the depictions are completed by words, rhyming and unique way of breaking sentences between lines, they tell the romantic words. The lyrics and poems are not separated from each other. Chinese paintings and human feelings are mixed, and there are people in the paintings( Vincent, 2013, p.19)

Word Choice

1. These eyes have only one mind, set upon us two.

帘外芭蕉骤雨门环铜绿

2. My present, past and the future reside in you.

而我路过那江南小镇了你

Vincent get this word from the famous proverb from the Hui Neng who is a very important person in Buddism: "There is no wisdom tree; nor a stand of a mirror bright, Since all is void, where can the dust alight?" But because the meaning of staining and dying is not strong than provoke. When something comes into with contact with other things, people will use staining and dying to describe this action. However, the meaning of provoke is like I don't invite you but you still come. This word has a very strong sense of initiation, more aggressive and dramatic(Vincent, 2008, p. 117)
