Introduction
Tyler, The Creator: Artist, Individual, African American
I decided to conduct my research project over Tyler the Creator. I believe Tyler was the perfect choice for this project, because of how unique his relationship between identity and language is in his music. In this project, I will be dissecting and analyzing Tyler the Creator's lyrics and music throughout his four albums and a few of his singles. I will also show the correlation between his language and his identity as an African American through his music and genre switching. Tyler has much in his life that sets him apart from his identity as African American yet brings him closer to that seemingly at the same time. With his identity in hip-hop we see him embrace much of that identity through his talks of the struggle and explicit language. There is a dynamic between his identity as an individual, and his identity as part of something else (not always) bigger than himself. My project reveals that which Tyler, the Creator expresses himself with his language and race.
