Current situation and endangerment
Limited speakers
According to Endangered Lanague Project the Yucuna language is extinct or theatened. This language is surrounded by other indigenous and around the Amazon Jugle.Which being around a very biodiverse environment and other languages bigger and smaller makes the environment a more tougher place to survive.Acording to Organización Nacional Indigena de Colombia there are only 550 people in the population. From how many native speakers at the time this website came up with that number, This website does have the ability to be alive.
Location
Now with any language major or minor, where it is located places a big part of the culture and what is spoken the most there. In a reading from Grenoble and Whaley These were put in categories of Regional,National, and Extra-National(pg 39)." How the Yucuna language fits into these is for one it is a Amazonian language, and on the boarder of Colombia. Therefore many Colombian and Yucuna kids end up going to many of the same schools so many political beliefs could effect both sets of children. However since Yucuna is near a major world language (Spanish) and of Colombias laws, religous beliefs and most important its main language. Which is where National category comes into place is almost like taking over another language. Grenoble and Whaley say " A region that shares cultural Characteristics and histories that transend national boarders(pg 39)." Which this area already does with Yucuna and Colombia.
