At its last stop in East St. Louis, the exhibit was vandalized multiple times and attracted only a few "legitimate visitors" a day. Some of the apprehension from the community may have been due to the dome that was set to overlay the city. "A more plausible explanation for the low turnout is the collective pathology of East ST. Louis manifest in the incredible apathy, neglect, and squalor of the place. It is hard to imagine anything so alien to the energetic and irrepressible spirit of Buckminster Fuller as apathy and neglect."

Fuller Says Domed Project May Be Near Metro East Journal-Timothy Middleton-Fuller discusses getting the project built and how he disuaded Wyvetter Younge from building the small scale model that was to be used as a community building. Instead he would like to spend the money on making a motion picture to explain the project in better detail. He urged East. St. Louisans to try to procure the land needed. The time may not yet be right, but the project will happen when it's meant to.
