My Goals

Major

I plan to major in Nursing. I am especially interested in learning about people’s experiences from multiple perspectives so that I can be a better nurse.

Career Interests

When my grandma died, her time in palliative care was so important for my family. The nurses in Hospice supported my family through her death as much as they helped her prepare for this major life shift. That made me want to be a Hospice nurse. In order to do this work, active listening is so critical. I want to use my work in the research team to really listen to other people from all different backgrounds and experiences so that I can continue to do that work as a nurse.

Courses Completed

CODE120: Research Team I

This was my first research team course in the CODES program; we worked directly with our community partner the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center to learn more about conservation management and the threats climate change presents to our waterways. We conducted additional research into people’s perceptions of climate disaster and the prevalence of misinformation about science online.

CODE121: Transdisciplinary Communication

In this course I learned more about rhetoric, or the methods people use to persuade others. I practiced writing, speaking, and communication skills related to our CODES coursework. My favorite assignment involved analyzing and visualizing data from the government report on Hurricane Katrina in relationship to the events in Jesmyn Ward’s novel Salvage the Bones.

Psych111: Foundations of Psychology

Psych111 provided an introduction to understanding psychology across the lifespan. I learned about memory, emotion, and cognitive development. I also got practice into how to study for college-level tests.

Future Courses

CHEM120

I’m nervous about Chemistry120! I hope I learn more about how different chemical reactions might affect side effects and drugs that patients take.
