Gearing up for a new semester
Welcome (or welcome back) to SIUE! It’s going to be a busy year in the IRIS Center, with lots of new faces and new projects. I’ve made this site to serve as an example of an ePortfolio, which is a digital space for you to track your achievements, reflect on your growth during your time at SIUE, and craft a digital identity to share with others. An ePortfolio functions as a personal website, a public-facing record of achievements that can be shared with your instructors, classmates, advisors, community groups, employers, and graduate schools.
You can read more about ePortfolios in general and find resources over on the CODES ePortfolio page.
Broadly speaking, ePortfolios contain artifacts (things you’ve made or done), reflections (blog posts, videos, or other pieces where you think about what you learned or gained from making the artifact), and narratives (pieces where you weave those reflections into broader stories about who you are and what you value.
I’ve tried to model that here by pulling together some of my own artifacts and putting them in different contexts to show how all the different pieces of my job and my life weave together. Like all ePortfolios, it’s a constant work in progress!
You’ll learn more about ePortfolios and about WordPress (the platform we’ll be using) in class. If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to send me an email or stop by my office hours.
