The Southern Initiative Algebra Project (SIAP), in partnership with Xavier University and Dillard University, placed university students in New Orleans schools to provide mathematics tutoring.
Xavier University student mentors were identified in fall 2017 in attendance at SIAP’s Saturday Workshops, provided training in February 2018, and assigned to participating New Orleans schools. They worked in the classrooms of SIAP trained teachers until the end of the university academic calendar. Dillard University students were identified, trained, and worked with students at Medard H. Nelson Elementary (an NBSF K-8 school).

Placements of university students have already begun for 2018-19, with a workshop on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Tutors began working in the schools the week of September 10, 2018.
