Define Digital Humanities – Aidan Keen

Digital Humanities is a study of the intersection between technology and humanity. Specifically, how they both evolve and can be used when interacting with one another. It focuses on finding new and innovate ways to present our culture and history using technology focusing on interactivity. By focusing on interactivity with technology to share these things, it becomes more engaging and easier to understand in some cases. Overall, digital humanities focuses on improvement in learning through the connection between humanity and technology.

ZacharyT What is DH?

If I had 1-2 min to explain what Digital Humanities is to someone who does not know I would tell them it’s the study of the culture of humans from a technical viewpoint. It involves tools like mapping, graphing, digitizing to help uncover new findings of ligature, history and art, while making the knowledge more accessible. From taking this class and someone who is majoring in Applied Communications with a Public Relations concentration this matters because PR is about communicating with people, networking, storytelling and being able to represent something or someone on the behalf and DH offers tools that makes this process more useful and engaging not only for me but possibly the people I could come in contact with. In my future career I can use these tools to build public campaigning and brand representation of companies. Overall, it helps bring the humanities to life and bring the data along with it visually.

Define Digital Humanities – Madison Warren

After taking this course, I have a different outlook on digital humanities. If I were to define digital humanities, I would say that it is the intersection between technical tools and humanities questions, including digital culture itself. In this class, we have worked with StoryMapJS and Twine. I learned a lot about these different technologies, which I would have never learned before if I hadn’t have taken this class.

Grant Wilson Digital Humanities Definition

I would define digital humanities as using essential digital tools such as record keeping, data visualization (timelines, maps, graphs), data tracking, and so much more to aid in creating innovative solutions to current sociological problems plaguing society that past technologies were not able or fell short in solving. Both recent problems, but attempting to document and ease decade spanning systemic issues plaguing some groups more than others.

Certain topics we have discussed stand out more than others. Text analysis can be very useful in almost any field. Analyzing text for possible biases or underlying opinions is also useful as people in our day to day lives. Digitizing can also be used in any field ensuring documents and objects are not forgotten or neglected. As a mass comm major, checking that whatever online content I create is accessible for all or as many possible to view and enjoy is very important.

Define digital humanities (4/30)

Digital humanities is the intersection of technology and the humanities. It involves using digital tools, such as mapping, text analysis, and data visualization, to study and present human culture, history, and literature in new ways. Instead of solely reading texts or studying events, digital humanities enable interaction with information, identification of patterns, and digital research presentation. The skills learned in this class can be applied to make projects in other courses more engaging and interactive. Professionally, digital humanities tools facilitate clear communication of complex ideas that are valuable in fields such as education, media, museums, and others.
