ZacharyT Interest Statement

A few things I am interested in this semester is being able to Practice entry-level digital humanities and social sciences skills including data management, interactive visualization, archiving, and mapping, learning how to use digital tools to address questions from an interdisciplinary perspective, learning the humanities and social sciences can contribute to solving large-scale issues.  This class will be very helpful and useful because I can take the things I learned from CODES in previous semesters and use WordPress and do digitalization while making QR codes and bring some knowledge to this digital humanities class and vice versa. Since I am a PR major, digital humanities ties into the type of work that I will be doing because with digital humanities and Public Relations you have to leverage digital platforms and build trust among yourself and the clients you give your service to.  Data management is really important in PR. You have to be able not only communicate on a surface level but also when your dealing with big firms or working in hospitals you have to record and log information and being able to do that in the most efficient and effective way possible is the goal in PR.

Hey, I love that you’re interested in the data side of things! There are lots of tools we’ll use in this class that can help with the public-facing side of PR, but you’re right that data practices are just as crucial, even if they’re not as visible. You’ll definitely see some overlaps with CODES, but I’m looking forward to digging into some new material too and hearing from you about some of the intersections.
