Data Analysis
- Select a partner to delve into an analysis of Dracula using only the tools available from Voyant.
- Settle on a research question. It should be something you want to know about the novel. It could be simple. Here are some samples:
- What character talks the most?
- What character relationships seem the most critical, or at least the most discussed in the text?
- Based on the frequency of word usage about seeing vs. knowing what can we determine about how the novel privileges certain ways of understanding the world?
- Once you have your research question, talk with your partner about which tool or combination of tools will be the best ones to answer your question.
- Run several experiments using different word choices to see what the results are. You can do this using just one computer together, or you can each run your own analyses and then compare. Be sure to export your visualizations as you go (you can keep the links and or HTML embed code in a WordPress blog draft for now and then work them into your blog for next week when you are ready).
- We’ll share visualizations on Tuesday, January 24, and talk through the blog posts too!
