Collaboration

I have always enjoyed working in pairs, I don’t think I have ever had a terrible experience working with others (Hope I didn’t just jinx it). In class it seems most people have the same goal, which is to pass the class. Although I have worked with people who did not always hold up their end of the work, but I usually just try to remind of a deadline or time frame so they feel more accountable for their portion. If they are still struggling with their part I may try to offer some help and that will typically get people running, because you are making them do it!

The rewards of working together are the best part! You are able to work with people that you wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to work with, and it makes the project easier. You have people that add different opinions and perspectives which add more depth to it than you could do by yourself. The drawbacks would just be not having the collaboration or connection with a group, which could cause problems. Another drawback could be a team mate just refusing to do the assignment. Then you either just have to suck it up and do their portion or you have to tattle.

A big benefit to working by yourself is that you can set your own deadlines for working on projects, which could also be your downfall if your a procrastinator.

I also enjoy the full freedom of choosing which subject I want to pursue for a project. Working alone allows you to truly personalize and take your work where you want it. It’s unique and not like anyone else’s.

We chose Iola Leroy for our text to analyze, at first glance it seemed to be really interesting. And so far in my reading it has proved to be interesting! The first few chapters seemed to drag on a bit, but it was mostly due to the language. It took me a while to get used to the language used, but now I am catching on to it and am reading it much quicker! So far so good!
