Introduction

Hi, my name is Kate Cookson. I am recently changing my major and am looking at the integrative studies program. This program allows you to choose two focus areas, so as of now I have decided the focuses to be English, and Communication Studies. I do not have a complete set plan on what I want to do for a career yet but hopefully soon I can be more confident and set in what I want to do. I am due to graduate in spring 2019 so I better figure it out quick! I currently work as a preschool Teacher when I am not in school.

Honestly technology and I have never molded together very well, I at times feel like an old lady when asked from elders how to work things on computers/phones. I know how to do most things but past the basics I am not very skilled. I took this class hoping that I could advance my skills and try to push myself to get with the times of technology. I am intrigued by the set up and different website than the normal blackboard. I am also nervous for the same reason, because this new website is not something that I am use too and feel that I may be lost at times. But I’m excited to begin this semester and take on this new challenge.

Hi Kate, I’m dealing with similar feelings of graduation coming and being unsure of what I want to do for work. Although you should get some credit for teaching preschoolers. There is no way that is easy! I also feel like I have a basic knowledge of technology, but there is a lot I am clueless about. For this class I am less nervous about the website because I used this website in the summer with Professor DeSpain. At first it feels overwhelming, but after a couple weeks it gets easier. Hopefully that is comforting. I’m looking forward to getting to know you better over the semester.

    Hi Kate,
I’m set to graduate in May as well. I think it’s cool that you’re a preschool teacher. I used to be a behavior technician and worked with preschoolers and elementary school kids, so I understand working with young kids can be challenging but also very rewarding at the same time. You’re not alone with feeling like an old lady who can’t figure out technology. Besides the basics, I am totally clueless when it comes to technology. Hopefully we’ll be able to help each other out when it comes to figuring out all this new fangled technology. I’m excited to be in class with you this semester and to work with you throughout the course of this class.

When I first applied for the preschool job I was a little unsure because kids can be crazy especially in big numbers. But I have been there for a year now and I love my kids. It is very rewarding and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a change of pace. I am sure you know this from working as a behavior technician, its amazing to watch the children develop so quickly and become little people with a big personality! I am very excited to work with you during this semester.

Hi, Kate. I’m not up to speed on how the Integrative Studies course works. Is it dual majors, or a little bit of two disciplines? Regardless, English and Communication fit together well. Being an open class, we should all have time to experiment with the new technology. Working together makes things easier when faced with new tools. I’m sure we’ll all do well.

It is more of the two disciplines put together to create one major. It seems like an interesting idea so far, so hopefully it works out and I can finally decide on something to do! It is a pretty difficult decision to make when it is for the rest of your life. But maybe after some more research I can be more confident in what exactly I want to do with my life.

    Hi Kate!

I can relate on not having a full career plan yet; although I am double majoring in Psychology and English – and graduating in December – I still don’t quite know what I am going to be doing with my degrees. Since this class is revolved around tinkering around and learning things yourself, I feel this class will work well for you. I look forward to working with you and hope you can figure everything out soon – maybe this class will help you with that!
