Introduction

My name is Molly Wilson and I transferred in as a senior to SIUE in the fall of 2016.  I am 26 years old.  I earned both my A.A. Degree in Fine Arts and my A.A.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Rend Lake College. I worked as a substitute teacher at Rend Lake College Foundation Children’s Center in 2015 after my father passed away from cancer in 2014, before starting to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree.  I loved working with the infants and toddlers and would do it again in a heartbeat if I had the time.  I have also worked as a service clerk at Walgreens for the past six and a half years.

In my free time, I enjoy acting in theatre productions, writing poems and plays, playing board games or card games, and going camping in the summer.  I also love spending time at the lake.  I have a cat named Scout and I love raccoons.  Before becoming an English Major, I spent a year majoring in Psychology.  I am obsessed with studying personality types.  I am an INFP.

I lived on campus for my first two years here, but due to some personal issues (including some medical issues as well as struggling with my mental health), I am commuting from Mt. Vernon this year. It has been rough, so I look forward to moving back to campus this coming fall. I had Post-Apocalyptic Literature online with Professor DeSpain this summer and the books we read were a lot more fun than I expected!

I am excited that our class is so small. My high school graduating class was made up of 14 students, so the size of our class is something I find comforting. I am also happy to be experimenting with technology in this class. I have always loved messing around on the computer. I am also looking forward to the books that were are able to look over, especially Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.  I actually really enjoyed the blogging aspect of Post-Apocalyptic Literature, as I had a blog when I was younger, so I am glad to be able to do the same thing in this class.

With that said, there are several things I am terrified about. I tend to hate group projects because I am often an awkward and shy person. While I am excited about the use of technology, I am also terrified. I have no idea what to expect as far as the technology goes. I am confused about exactly what we are going to be doing with the books. I am pretty good at using certain kinds of technology, but I am rather intimidated by others. Though I am fairly good at participating in class discussions when I know that I need to, I am bad at asking questions when I don’t understand something. I am a lot better at putting my concerns into writing than stating them aloud.  I have never done a grading contract before, so I’m not sure what to think about that.

Hi Molly, I think it’s so cool that you act for fun and write poems and plays. I like reading plays but it takes a special person to have a passion about participating. I love cats so if you ever want to show off pictures of Scout I would be happy to see them :). I also enjoy study personality types and I am an INTJ. There’s a guy on YouTube named C. S. Joseph and he has really great videos about all of the personality types. I’m in the same boat with you about not liking group work (My “I” is 80% introverted). But I am excited to get to know you better and hope that this is a good experience for you.

    Hey Molly,
I also have a passion for plays, although all I ever did in high school in terms of theater was play trumpet in the music pit for our school musicals. I also have an interest in personality types since I’m a psychology major. I’m an ENFP. I have three cats myself (Frankie, Pumpkin, and Wiley) and also one dog (Bella). I feel the same as you do when it comes to the technology aspect of this class. I’m not really sure what we’ll be doing with technology yet, but I’m sure that we’ll figure it out and work through it together. I’m excited to be in class with you this semester!

HI, Molly. Commuting from Mt. Vernon must be rough. Hopefully your issues get resolved soon. I’ve not had the chance to see plays, other than one or two. Maybe you could recommend a couple for me to see or read? It’s great that you’re in to acting. That and your writing must keep you busy. I’m an INFP also, so I generally have the same feelings toward group work as you do. I have found that the closer to graduation, the better the groups tend to be. See you in class.

Hi Molly! I am also a transfer student; however, I transferred to SIUE in the Fall of 2017. Congrats on your 2 Associate’s degrees! My best friend is actually studying to be a teacher, so maybe you could give me some tips to pass along to her. In high school, I was quite involved in theater, and was even inducted into ITS. I sometimes miss those days, but I definitely find it hard to make time for anything like that. Hopefully, your level of comfort with technology as well as this class in general will increase throughout the semester. I am happy to help in any way I can! I look forward to working with you!
