Hot Rods and Hotter Temperatures Community Event/Launch
You’re invited to a community meeting hosted by students in SIUE’s Public History (HIST 470) class on Tuesday evening, December 12, from 5:00-7:45 pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Edwardsville Public Library.
This event will invite the community to reflect on the legacies of Route 66 in Madison County in preparation for the Route 66 Centennial in 2026. We’ll focus especially on how to commemorate this iconic event in American car culture in light of the reality that today transportation is the main source of planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition to the discussion, there will be a “memory mapping” activity to share memories of the Mother Road, trivia, crossword puzzles, coloring pages for kids, and some auto-themed swag the students have made. We hope to see you there!
