Climate Change

Climate change refers to the long-term changes in temperature, precipitation, and other atmospheric conditions on planet Earth. Scientific evidence supports the conclusion that human activity such as the burning of fossil fuels and loss of “green” surface area has significantly contributed to the warming of Earth. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is a scientific branch under the United Nations, the Earth has had a global temperature increase of about 1.98 degrees Fahrenheit since the pre-industrial era of the Earth. Scientists have found that the primary reason for global climate change is due to anthropocentric greenhouse gas emissions from humans. This trend of greenhouse gas emissions by humans has a very wide range of impacts, including changes ion precipitation patterns, an increase is extreme weather occurrences, rising sea levels, and disruptions to ecosystems on Earth.

The IPCC is a key source of information and produces comprehensive analysis based on scientific research. Another reputable source is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). NASA closely monitors Earth’s climate using their satellite technology and ground-based observations. According to NASA, the sea has risen about 4 inches since 1993. NASA Scientists believe that the rising sea levels are caused by two factors related to global warming: the added water from melting ice sheets and glaciers, and the expansion of seawater as it warms. The melting of ice sheets also causes harm to arctic ecosystems. Across the polar food web, the loss of sea ice causes loss of food source and habitat for the animals calling the arctic ecosystem home.

Addressing climate change is a top priority for many scientists, politicians, and citizens across the world. Addressing climate change will require global efforts and full cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There are companies and organizations such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) that facilitate international negotiations and agreements that attempt to mitigate the further harming of the climate. It will take communities and nations working together to succeed in the fight against our warming planet .Global climate change doesn’t just depend on big companies and factories to change their ways, it depends on everyone to protect the planet for the future.
