Poetry

With sorrow fraught / My notes are driven: / They strike the ear of night, / Make weep the eyes of day; / They make mad the roaring winds, /And with tempests play.

William Blake, “Mad Song”

After reading a series of poems exploring madness, we wrote poems of our own to further investigate the concept or aspects of it. Some of us wrote “in voice of the madperson,” while others created speakers seeing madness from the outside. Some were inspired by our class readings, others by their own experiences, and others took entirely different directions, serious or playful.
