Welcome to the “Semantics & Pragmatics” Spring 2021 Digital Projects

The digital projects for ENG 405 “Semantics and Pragmatics” are “applied” in nature, in that they invite students to further explore one of the topics covered in this class by considering the topic through a particular language lens. This includes topics such as:

Pragmatic aspects of language use on social media.
Pragmatic aspects of applications of online advertisements or online news portals.
Using the Oxford English Dictionary to explore the converging and diverging histories of words through time

We hope that the end result of these projects will be a series of attractive and publicly accessible web exhibits that students in “Semantics and Pragmatics” publicly display, if they choose. Beyond exploring themes in applied language research, these exhibits can function as potentially useful examples of skill-building in basic web development and design tools.
