The Ainu Language

Ainu アィヌ

Nestled on the island of Hokkaido in Northern Japan, lies the Ainu language. A language considered critically endanger by UNESCO and held alive by two surviving fluent speakers.

Though the Ainu language is near extinciton, it is not without attempts to resuscitate. The Ainu people are proactively establishing a base for the language to reawaken by making broadcasts, museums, and educational programs to keep their indigenous heritage alive.
