A fellow, enslaved man who helped Douglass by inviting him back to his home after his escape from Covey’s plantation. His wife cared for Douglass, and Sandy Jenkins bequeathed to him a root which Jenkins believed would protect Douglass from being whipped by Covey. He was also part of a planto escape William Freeland’s farm along with Douglass and other companions but decided against it.
