Liz is an architect who works on spatial justice. She believes that the idea that justice has a geography and that the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">equitable<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> distribution of resources and services is a human right. She <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">develops real and deep questions that <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">challenge<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">\u00a0developers, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">architects,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> and policymakers about <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">gentrification. When these people <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">participate<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> in the act of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">gentrification,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> they are harming the community <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">members<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">, some of whom have lived there for <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">numerous<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> upon <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">numerous<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> years. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">Liz strongly believes that healing is not about erasing pain, healing is about acknowledging pain and making peace with it and that is exactly why she does the occupation she is in right now. She is there not to build on top <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">of<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> the brokenness but rather, restore hope and healing in these communities. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">Some key points that were raised in the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">TED<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> talk that really caught my attention were<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">, \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">Who thinks you can go to therapy once and be <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">healed,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">\u201d<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">\u201cHurt people hurt people, <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">healed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> people heal people<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">,\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> and \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\">pain and grief are recurring themes of gentrification.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW31388844 BCX4\"> She also mentions that the choice of gentrification is not yours to make, it is no longer your home.
