Our research team members are partnering with the beautiful and world-famous Missouri Botanical Garden<\/a> to dig into the history of the Garden, including the unnamed and unrecognized people who contributed to its founding, and the information about plants that the Garden works to conserve. Working under the theme of restorative\/reparative racial justice, our team will work with the Garden to foster more inclusion and representation in the ways that the Garden preserves information and portrays itself to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through their work in the CODES program, these scholars will learn to analyze, visualize, and share their work with the broader public using data mining, mapping, storytelling, networking, and cultural analytics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, CODES gives students firsthand experience applying twenty-first century skills including collaboration, systems thinking, and innovative approaches to digital communication. Furthermore, students learn the important skill of negotiating the civic responsibilities they bear toward others in both physical and digital spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
