In preparation\nfor the roll-out of Edwardsville\u2019s single-use bag ordinance that takes effect\nApril 1, the Bring Your Own Glen-Ed group wants to provide residents with\nresources to BYOB\u2014Bring Your Own Bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bring Your\nOwn Glen-Ed is calling on all those with sewing skills or simply an interest in\nmaking things to make bags for members of the community who have difficulty making\nor buying their own. The group will host an event on March 8 from 10 a.m. to 2\np.m. at the Edwardsville Art Center to create and sew new bags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mary Grose,\none of the project\u2019s organizers, said that the group wants to provide residents\nwith \u201cwashable and durable canvas bags that can be used over and over again.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The city will\nbe donating more than 300 reusable bags to the Main Street Community Center to\nprovide bags to those who need them the most. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s our focus,\u201d said Grose. \u201cAlthough those on assistance are exempt from the ordinance, we realize there are people who may not be on assistance but still may not be able to purchase a good reusable bag, and that\u2019s the people we are concentrating on helping.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

No sewing\nexperience is necessary. Fabric, thread, and extra needles will be provided.\nExperienced sewers will be on site to assist in putting the bags together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is free, but a donation of $2 is requested to\ncover the cost of materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Space at the event is limited to 36 people, so those\ninterested are encouraged to RSVP.  They can\ndo so by contacting contact Mary Grose at marypgrose@gmail.com or (618) 698-0648.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
