Description

Male doll with wampum belt woven with diamond motif and silver cresent brooch at neck. He wears a ruffled linen shirt and blue stroud leggings under a red linen blanket with horizontal rows of alternating brown and yellow tape. His regalia is accessorized with a conical cap with linen train, deer hide moccasins and a knife in a case.

Provenance

One of a set of four dolls attributed to the Algonquin, 1767-79. There must be a reason for the specific dates, but it is not on the online record. Somewhere I read that these are in the Speyer Collection, which has varying degrees of documentation. See Bo'jou Neejee for history of the Speyer Collection, but these dolls are not included in that exhibit.
